Fitzpatrick Beats Speith in Playoff to Win RBC Heritage
Well golf fans, we got a good one this weekend at Harbor Town Golf Links in South Carolina. Jordan Speith, the defending champ and obvious fan favorite played great the entire week, but it wasn't enough to close the deal.
Matt Fitzpatrick was playing solid golf all day, but it looked like it was going to be a race between Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Speith. Until Cantlay made a few costly mistakes on 13 and 14, virtually putting him out of contention.
Meanwhile, Speith also dropped a shot on 14 after putting himself in a bad positon on the tough par 3. Fitzpatrcik got out with a par and found himself only 1 back of the lead. He proceeded to make a clutch birdie on hole 15 and followed it up with another on hole 16.
He put the pressure on Speith with nice lag putt on the 18th, forcing him to make a tricky putt for par to extend the tournament to a playoff.
Matt Fitzpatrick Wins RBC With Clutch Approach Shot on 18
After playing the first two playoff holes, there was still no winner decided, but that changed after Matt's approach shot on 18. As a kid vaccationing to Pine Springs with his family, I'm sure he's seen his fair share of great golf shots, but his 9 iron to 6 inches will go down as one of the best golf shots in torunament history. It was a fantastic shot, in a clutch moment and earned him his 2nd PGA Tour win after Speith missed his long birdie attempt.
Matt Fitzpatrick was greeted by his family after tapping in his winning putt and posting a 68 in regulation golf. Finally getting adding another win to his resume. Here is his scorecard from round 4.
Congrats on the win the week from Under Bogey Golf.
